*Spoilers for Final Fantasy IV, I guess*
Kain is one of my favorite characters in any Final Fantasy game and it makes me really happy to see one of my favorite artists, Zac Gorman, put him in a comic. At the time of FFIV, the stories in the game weren’t as deep as future games, but there was still so much depth to his character. Cecil’s problems were rough, but I had a soft spot for Kain. Kain was always in second place to Cecil. He picked a lower profession as a Dragoon in order to live up to his father’s name instead of choosing to be a Dark Knight, where he would have been a higher rank. He was constantly in second place to Cecil, even to Rosa, the one he loved. Golbez uses all doubts that Kain has, in addition to magic, to make Kain think he can become a better, more powerful person by following him. After he’s released from the spell, he is plagued with a tremendous amount of guilt for his previous actions. I haven’t finished the FFIV sequel yet, but I love what I’ve seen of Kain so far, in the first story.
Yeah, so that’s my nerd love post for the day. Love Final Fantasy IV. It was my first RPG and Final Fantasy game, actually.
